about

A few months ago, a friend of mine asked, "L.A. Why is it that every time I see you, you're always walkin so fast, or talkin real quick like you're headed somewhere? You always seem busy, like you're always on the run." Without thinking, I jokingly responded, "Aw man, I'm just pretending, I don't actually have anywhere to be!"

As time went on I began to realize, in all actuality, I wasn't pretending. The summer after graduating was in fact the busiest, most productive, overwhelmingly fun time I've ever experienced in my life. There wasn't a single day that went by where I felt like didn't get anything done for my career or the kingdom. God has shown me everyday how blessed I am to have this job. I get to be a musician. I do exactly what I love to do every single day, and some people pay me for it!

I knew I was going to do a project but I didn't want to call it an EP or an album. I needed to address it as something that my main demographic could identify with, so I called it a mixtape! It's a compilation of songs I've written, projects I've played on, and beats that I've collaborated with friends on. It's a musically heterogeneous mixture of genres, with a little something that I hope everyone can appreciate.

This mixtape is a testament of God's goodness. He has opened up my ears to hear and to create. He has given me new, fresh ideas, and He has allowed me to work with some of the finest musicians in my city. #LAOnTheRun is a gift that describes exactly what took place the summer after I graduated from McNally Smith College of Music.

In January of 2014, I was offered a full-ride scholarship to complete a Master's degree at McNally. I've realized how HUGE of a blessing that is. There aren't enough words to express my gratitude. This mixtape is a small token of appreciation for every opportunity I've been afforded. Between (studio recording) sessions every week, rehearsals, teaching, gigs every weekend, and the copious amount of "kickin it" that I do in the summer, one could conclude that I'm always on the run!

I've been inspired by you all in some way or another during this process and I'm forever grateful for your contribution to my success whether you were aware of it or not.

Danielle, I love you. Thank you for being a true friend and relentlessly supporting me. Throughout all of the late studio nights, the plan cancelations and change ups, you've been my biggest support during this entire process and I will continue to try and repay you every single day for what you've done for me. You're a for real teammate! You da real MVP!
